On February 3, 2014 Doug Toone, the founder and owner of Jewelry Design Center, gave a presentation to the local Rotary Club about his experiences in the fine jewelry industry.
In high school, Toone hunted down a job downtown as he was “looking for friendlier hours than the creamery offered.” That led him to the doorstep of a local jeweler south of the Bing theater.
Fast forward fifty years to today, and that same high schooler that “loved to work with his hands” now owns the largest jewelry store in the state of Washington. With nine craftsmen on staff and state-of-the-art design technology, Toone’s Jewelry Design Center is the product of years of honest and heartfelt work.
One of his keys to success? “You have to understand what the metals will do.”
